The Opus Tower Project
The Opus Tower, a landmark project in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, designed by Zaha Hadid, is a multi-functional complex that includes exclusive residences, offices, and a luxury hotel. A project of this magnitude requires advanced technology, which we were able to provide.
For the lighting control system at the Opus Tower, we utilized DALIGate DMX/Art-Net/sACN-to-DALI converters. This solution integrated the DALI fixtures into a single professional interior lighting control system with centralized management. The client, Omniyat, selected us based on our past experience and the proven reliability of our solutions. Supply and support for the project were handled through our partner, Anixter.
The equipment used in this project was the DALIGate DIN
The DALIGate DIN operates via a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port, acting as a gateway for the DALI fixtures. It converts industry-standard lighting control protocols—DMX512, RDM, ArtNet, sACN, KiNet, and RTTrPL—into DALI signals, ensuring seamless communication. This provides flexible control over individual lamps, groups, or in broadcast mode. The device supports both DMX-DALI and DALI-DMX interface modes, making it a versatile converter within a single unit. This provided a complete solution for integrating the DALI system into the larger DMX-based lighting setup of the Opus Tower in Dubai. The unit features a compact, laser-engraved aluminum housing designed for DIN rail mounting (8 modules).
Advantages Achieved
- Scenario Flexibility: The DALIGate devices allow for precise adjustments of color and intensity, and they can use triggers (Alarms) to activate emergency lighting scenarios. This makes the lighting a functional element of the architectural design, not just a decorative one.
- Advanced Control: The system supports various conversion modes, including channel-to-channel, channel-to-device, and channel-to-group, with the ability to create custom groups of fixtures. Configuration is done through an intuitive web interface accessible from any browser. Connection to the control computer is made via an Ethernet twisted-pair cable, supporting ArtNet and sACN protocols.
- High Reliability: Reliability is crucial for the Opus Tower in Dubai, where the environment is saturated with network equipment. The DMX ports are equipped with galvanic isolation, which eliminates interference.
- Equipment Protection: The DALIGate is resistant to voltage fluctuations up to 305 V, protecting not only itself but also the connected devices.
Conclusion
The dynamic environment of the Zaha Hadid-designed Opus Tower pulses with energy. Its open spaces encourage collaboration, while private areas create highly efficient work environments. We complemented this ambitious project by unifying the control of various lighting types into a single network, including fluorescent fixtures with electronic ballasts and incandescent lamps with dimmers, to create a functional and inspiring atmosphere.
